The R8 is hoped-for to have removable targa panels alternatively of a folding convertible top, with twin speedster humps positioned above the mid-mounted V8.
Audi R8 Cabrio will probably use the same 420-horsepower 4.2-liter engine that powers the 2008 R8 coupe.
Later on, I will post some pictures of the Audi R8 Cabrio.
The price of the R8 Spider isn’t decided yet.
Today’s R8 coupe costs £78,200 indicating the Spider will price nearer to £85,000 with the 414bhp 4.2-litre V8 engine alternative.
The new cabrio Audi Spider will gain a conventional fabric ceiling but drops out on the R8’s trademark aluminum side blades. Other major changes for the new Audi R8 Spider that are expected to make it to production will be extra air inlets built-up behind the seatings as well as a couple of safe roll-over bars. The position of the fuel filler cap will also be changed due to the missing rear pillars, while varieties under the sheetmetal will probably take extra chassis strengthening.
The introduction of the Audi R8 Spider is preset for the ending of this year, most likely at the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung 2008. Nearly a few months away from the introduction we can share some facts and rumors about the Audi R8 Spider with you already: the new R8 Spider will get the same 4.2 liter V8 as the typical Audi R8. But Audi also announced that the Audi R8 might also see a V10 interpretation, maybe the same V10 as in the Lamborghini Gallardo that is also applied in the Audi S6 and S8. Hopefully this V10 engine also makes it into the Audi R8 Spider. One thing is sure, the new Audi R8 Spider with or without the 5,2 liter V10 can grew a serious player in the supercar cabrio field! The R8 Spider will be one of the most extraordinary cabrio supercar out there but if it handles and performes like the average R8, the new Audi Spider will unquestionably give the Porsche 911 cabriolet and Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster a run for their money.
